What is anti collision lights?

Anti Collision Lights also called as beacon lights or strobe lights

This are a set of lights on every aircrafts to improve the visibility to others on the ground and in the air and as well as collision avoidance measured by warning others pilots.

during starting they have used incandescent bulbs, but recently they are used LED (Light Emitting Diodes).



Why these lights used in aircrafts?

Their main purpose is to alert all ground crews and other aircrafts that an engine is starting, running or shutting down, or that the aircrafts is about to start moving. 

Some lights to produce a flashing effect, which makes them more likely to be noticed.



How many types of anti collision lights?

Two types of anti collision lights.  

1) Beacon Lights  2) Strobe Lights


- Beacon lights are rotating red lights 

- Strobe lights are white lights


- Red lights are at the top and bottom of the aircraft and sometimes on the tail side.

- White lights are each wing tip of the aircraft and sometimes on the tail side.


- Anti Collision Lights dont stay ON position but they keep turning ON and OFF meanwhile they are always blinking.


- Anti Collision Lights are mandatory used at night, During the day, mostly due to clouds, they should be used.
